‘Clear Channel’, a company that specialises in outdoor advertising, claims that within the
duration of one week, 62% of commuters came into contact with a billboard. Billboards are a long term commitment due to the time that it takes to construct one and they must run in blocks of two weeks- Gillette's billboard will run for the duration of the campaign. It will be beneficial for Gillette to include billboards in the campaign due to being such a large company with a sizeable budget.
The billboards will be located in 3 key locations:
- Commuter routes.
- Routes towards shopping centres.
- Public transport stations.
These locations target the consumer during their everyday life- whilst commuting to work, shopping and socialising. Giving the target consumer maximum exposure to the product and advertising campaign.
As the product is stocked in the larger Boots stores, these promotions will be located in the main cities such as:
- Manchester.
- Liverpool.
- London.
- Newcastle.
- Aberdeen.
- Glasgow.
- Edinburgh.
The billboard will be landscape orientated and must feature:
- Celebrity Endorsement.
- Gillette Logo.
- Pro- Safety Logo.
- Search Term or QR Code.
- Gillette Products.
- Pro- Safety Product.
- Tagline.
- Brief Description.
- Themed Background- to ensure consistency.
Development of Billboard:
I started out with this background which was then developed on a separate file and added later on as I felt this starting point didn't look professional.
I started to add information such as the "Google 'Gillette Manchester'" search term, logos, cut out celebrity couple and the basic description.
I added the cut out version of the Gillette product range from my photoshoot- with a slight glow around it, to allow it to stand out from the background.
I also began to develop the text in the bottom left hand corner, adding effects as well as the Gillette logo and current slogan.
I also began to develop the font and location of the top right hand corner text.
I took out the older slogan.
I also decided that the smaller Gillette logo was not needed.
The fonts where also edited- changed to a bold which stood out against the background more.
I also added the product in the bottom right hand corner- again with a glow around it.
I feel the text is a lot more eye catching and clear now- in comparison to what it was before.
I also added the improved background.
This is the final Billboard design placed on a building to show how it would look when constructed:
