Adshel- Research and Development.

Clear Channel a UK outdoor advertising company claims that the average adshel campaign can reach 74% of the UK's population in two weeks. Adshels are cost effective and highly beneficial- reaching Gillette's target consumer; old and new.

As with the billboards, the adshels will be located within the UK's main cities- targeting the desired consumer with disposable income and an interest in technology.

The adshels will be constructed in 2 key locations:

  • Close to the Boots stores.
  • In public transport stations.
As with the Billboard these will run for a total of 5 weeks- 4 weeks prior to Valentines and one week after.

Street Adshel:

The street adshel will have several key features:

  • Gillette Logo.
  • Pro- Safety Logo.
  • Celebrity Couple.
  • Product.
  • Gillette Fusion Range.
  • QR Code.
  • Description.
  • Slogan.
  • Website Address.
  • Themed Background.
The development of the adshel is taken from the development of the billboard- ensuring consistency within the promotions.

Due to the adshel being portrait, it will feature a longer shot of the celebrities.

Development of the Street Adshel:

I begun by placing key items- products, logos and celebrities.

Then transformed and developed them to find the best location for each of the items.

I then added the text developed from the billboard

Developing it to find the best location.

I then added the description in the top left hand corner.

I decided this would be better in a thinner, italic font- aligned to the left.
I also added the improved background to this.

Final Street Adshel:

Transport Adshel:

72% of consumers play games whilst commuting- it would be beneficial for Gillette to have a transport adshel that focuses on the iOS7 game targeting consumers as they make their way to work and are most likely 'bored'. The commuters will be more likely to download the game so they have something to play on whilst they are waiting for tubes/trains/buses on the way to work or when shopping.

The transport adshel will be similar to that of the street adshel but will feature the iOS7 Game instead of the product and will encourage the user to download the game from the Apple app store.

I have just developed from the previous adshel and replaced parts with the game and description.

Arranging the two new items to find the best layout.

Billboard- Research and Development.

‘Clear Channel’, a company that specialises in outdoor advertising, claims that within the duration of one week, 62% of commuters came into contact with a billboard. Billboards are a long term commitment due to the time that it takes to construct one and they must run in blocks of two weeks- Gillette's billboard will run for the duration of the campaign. It will be beneficial for Gillette to include billboards in the campaign due to being such a large company with a sizeable budget.

The billboards will be located in 3 key locations:
  • Commuter routes.
  • Routes towards shopping centres.
  • Public transport stations.
These locations target the consumer during their everyday life- whilst commuting to work, shopping and socialising. Giving the target consumer maximum exposure to the product and advertising campaign.

As the product is stocked in the larger Boots stores, these promotions will be located in the main cities such as:
  • Manchester.
  • Liverpool.
  • London.
  • Newcastle.
  • Aberdeen.
  • Glasgow.
  • Edinburgh.
The billboard will be landscape orientated and must feature:
  • Celebrity Endorsement.
  • Gillette Logo.
  • Pro- Safety Logo.
  • Search Term or QR Code.
  • Gillette Products.
  • Pro- Safety Product.
  • Tagline.
  • Brief Description.
  • Themed Background- to ensure consistency.
Development of Billboard:

I started out with this background which was then developed on a separate file and added later on as I felt this starting point didn't look professional.

I started to add information such as the "Google 'Gillette Manchester'" search term, logos, cut out celebrity couple and the basic description.

I added the cut out version of the Gillette product range from my photoshoot- with a slight glow around it, to allow it to stand out from the background.

I also began to develop the text in the bottom left hand corner, adding effects as well as the Gillette logo and current slogan.

I also began to develop the font and location of the top right hand corner text.

I took out the older slogan.

I also decided that the smaller Gillette logo was not needed.

The fonts where also edited- changed to a bold which stood out against the background more.

I also added the product in the bottom right hand corner- again with a glow around it.

I feel the text is a lot more eye catching and clear now- in comparison to what it was before.

I also added the improved background.

This is the final Billboard design placed on a building to show how it would look when constructed:

Dissertation Development.

The dissertation follows the theme of the campaign when it comes to design:

  • Orange pages.
  • Futura and Airstrike fonts.
  • Promotional imagery.
Some example pages:

When it came to the printing and presentation of the dissertation, I wanted to have:

  • Solid black outer covers with gold corners.
  • Plastic protective sheets in side the front and back cover.
  • The front and back inside paper covers (logo front cover and plain orange back cover) are shiny card.
  • The bulk inside pages are printed on a high quality matte paper.
  • There is also an insert with the media and campaign plan- concertina effect for viewing ease.
I also branded a CD case and placed it in a blue wallet.
